Add new printer

Open System Preferences

Note: If you do not have a driver available a Generic PCL and Generic PS driver is available.


OS/X has built-in driver that you can install. These drivers are not the latest version and may not have all the features of drivers downloaded from the manufacturer.


Select Printers & Scanners

Select the PLUS (+) icon to add a new printer, Click Add Printer or Scanner…


Note: If no (+) or (-), click lock at bottom of dialog to unlock

Select a printer from the found printers or select the IP icon at the top & enter required information.



Address               (IP address)


Protocol               select Line Printer Daemon – LPD

Queue                  LP or print


Note: Most newer printers will use nothing or print as a queue name.


Name                    (Name shown in print dialog)


Location              (optional)




Auto – Tries to select driver based by communicating with the printer


Generic Postscript Printer


Generic PCL Printer


Select Printer… (open dialog box to search/select the driver)


Other… (opens dialog to select file)

The system will try to communicate with the printer to determine any installed options and shows an option dialog box.

Select any installed options and press OK.


The printer is ready to use.
